Ways to Tap into Your 6th Sense: Your Intuition
Each day, we have so many decisions to make.
What to eat.
What to wear.
What to do.
As leaders, it’s imperative to trust your gut with what you say and how you say it.
Whether you’re sitting in the board room sharing year-end reports, pumping up your team, or having that challenging crucial conversation, speaking from the heart connects you to using the right words at the right time.
Here are three tips to tapping into your intuition to best connect with your audience:
Tip 1: Soften Your Body
It’s impossible to communicate your best when you feel at your worst.
Stop and ask yourself:
What is happening in my body right now?
How am I feeling?
If you’re experiencing tension or your body is shaking, you can deduce your body is in a stress response. Survey your senses: what are you hearing? Seeing? Touching? Smelling? Tasting?
Recently, I’ve been recouping from a cold and explored my inner thoughts and feelings, noting my physical condition links to my mental state. Author and one of the founders of the self-help movement, Louise Hay, connects the status of our nose to how we feel when it comes to self-recognition, self-worth, and appreciation.
This awareness can help you channel into what it is you need and want in the moment.
Then, your body can soften.
Tip 2: Still Your Mind
More than a month ago, I attended a 3-day silent retreat. While those close to me questioned my intentions, I found deep peace and solace in not speaking or distracting myself with technology. My intuition spoke loudly in the silence.
Find a way to quiet yourself.
Get outside in nature and observe animals and their being.
Sit quietly, even for five minutes without any distractions.
Take a bath or be near a body of water.
There is power in quieting the mind, then you can tune inward to make those tough decisions or communicate your important message or ideas.
You have all you need around you.
Tip 3: Make Space for Creativity
The movie Wicked is out and though I’ve seen the stage performance twice, I’ve felt compelled to listen to the soundtrack while coloring. Tapping into my inner child has unleashed a desire to journal and write.
When you make space to be, this spaciousness unlocks the stuck and smooths out the edges to let in the yummy you have inside. This freedom helps you align your headspace with your heart. As Dr. Joe Dispenza calls it, “brain and heart coherence.”
Your heart will guide you to the great speaking topic or way to express your story or idea.
